Found Class Ring

The RHS Alumni Association has been contacted by someone who found a 1968 Ruston High School class ring. The finder says the ring is well worn and there are no initials in the ring. It's possible that the initials may be worn completely off. The ring was found in the Gulfport - Biloxi area in Mississippi. If you have lost your class ring, or if you know of someone from the Class of '68 who has, we may be able to help you get it back.

Memorabilia Needed

On February 9, 2009, the RHS History Committee met with RHS Alumni Association President Jack Thigpen and RHS Freshman Academic Coordinator Catherine Letendre. Mrs. Letendre presented a plan to create and display a collection of memorabilia spanning the life of Ruston High's rich history. Mrs. Letendre, who is a graduate of Byrd High School in Shreveport, was a key player in a similar project at Byrd High. Her plan called for this display to be securely placed in the old school library located on the 3rd floor.

The school itself will be able to provide some of the items to be placed on display, but much of the memorabilia provided by the school will be athletics-related. Although athletics is a large part of the school's history, the proposed display will consist of all aspects of the school's history. In order to create a well-rounded display, much of this memorabilia will need to come from the alumni.

Anyone who has any such items that they would be willing to have on display should contact Mrs. Letendre as soon as possible. Any items that are donated or loaned should be marked with the name and address of the person making the donation. Any items that are loaned will be returned upon request and will need to be properly identified.

Anyone who has any such items that they would be willing to have on display should contact Mrs. Letendre or Randy Moore, RHS Alumni Association History Committee Chairman as soon as possible.

Dedication of the new
RHS Basketball Court
in honor of Coach Denmon Garner

Much of Ruston High School has been undergoing renovations for more than a year. Once such area that has been recently renovated is the gym floor in the Boys Gymnasium. On February 13, 2009, Ruston High School dedicated the new basketball court as the "Denmon Garner Court" in honor of retired coach and the 2009 Distinguished Retired Educator, Coach Denmon Garner. The dedication ceremony took place between the girls game and the boys game that evening as RHS took on Ouachita.

Many former players, students, and friends of Coach Garner were on hand to participate in this very special ceremony.
